Pocket Guides for Modern Living, a series of commentaries, by Island comedian Patrick Ledwell debuts Friday, March 7, on CBC Radio's Mainstreet.
"There are many audio programs out there addressing the big life questions, such as how to save the planet or how to find true happiness," says Ledwell. "But there aren't many focused on the tiny details of modern living, such as whose turn it is to take out the recycling, or how poor high-school course selection can cause lifelong regrets."
Ledwell says minor questions have an unshakable hold on him, "like tone-deaf songbirds clinging on my shoulder, singing in my ear."
The Pocket Guides commentaries can be heard every Friday in March, just after the 4:30 pm news on CBC Radio 96.1 FM.
In the past 12 months, Ledwell has performed at the Halifax Comedy Festival, the Hilarious and Homegrown Showcase (also in Halifax), Comedy at the Mac and the Island Comedy Showcase in PEI.
The radio series represents a challenge to the stand-up comedian. "My hope in creating Pocket Guides," says Ledwell, "is to confront these tiny, minor issues head-on, without flinching."
After each Pocket Guide is broadcast in March, it will be available for next-day listening at Patrick Ledwell's website, http://www.patrickledwell.net
Pocket Guides for Modern Living is produced with the assistance of CBC Charlottetown; production supervision by Matt Rainnie; creative development is in partnership with David Malahoff of Campbell Webster Entertainment.
